Baby Think It Over/Empathy Belly

If you are a teacher or member of any organization dealing with teens and are interested in educating them about the responsibility of caring for a child or the effects of pregnancy our community coordinators offer two different programs, Baby Think It Over and Empathy Belly Pregnancy Simulators. The program is open to any school, church group, or youth group, in our six-county area, and is available at no charge. The 6 Bootheel counties include Dunklin, Mississippi, Pemiscot, Scott, Stoddard, New Madrid. There are 10 Real Care Baby III infant simulators in the program. The S.T.O.P.P. program is responsible for upkeep of the simulators, education of teachers/community members, delivery to schools/community organizations, and program evaluation. Each infant simulator is accompanied by a car seat and diaper bag; which includes a diaper, bottle, baby blanket, baby wipes, and a student information card. When requested by an organization, our trainers go into the school/organization and train site coordinators in their use. We also provide support during program administration.

We also have three Pregnancy Simulators in the Empathy Belly Program. The pregnancy simulator gives the participant a 30-35 lb weight gain as well as other symptoms of pregnancy. Students normally wear the simulator for 15-20 minutes and participate in a series of activities, including; walking, sitting at a school desk, sitting on the floor, tying their shoe, etc. When requested by an organization, our trainers goe into the school or group meeting and demonstrate the simulator with the students, aiding the students as they participate using the simulator.

If interested in either of these programs, please contact Continuing Education at 573-986-7399
